Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
EPA Guidelines on the use of Scare Guns
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the misuse of gas-operated scare guns, where farmers use scare guns to cause distress and harassment to other landholders.

Some farmers are currently using scare guns without a reasonable need to use them, for example, there are no crops on their property that require the use of scare guns.

The Environment Protection Authority and local Council guidelines need to be stricter to prevent the misuse of scare guns, particularly when there is no bird problem or crops that require protection.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning to work with the Environment Protection Authority to set up and enforce stricter guidelines regarding the use of scare guns, including the requirement for the use of scare guns to be limited to protecting crops and only to be discharged at a minimum distance of 450 metres away from any residences.
