Writs issued for Victorian state election

At 6pm on Tuesday 4 November 2014 the writs were issued for the Victorian state election, bringing to an end the 57th Parliament.

The state election will be held on Saturday 29 November 2014, with 88 Legislative Assembly seats and 40 Legislative Council seats to be contested.

Victorian Governor Alex Chernov issued the writs, commanding the Victorian Electoral Commission to hold an election. The writs contain the dates for the close of rolls, the close of nominations and the return of the writs.

People have until 8:00pm, seven days after the writs were issued to enrol, or to update their enrolment.

After the results are declared, the Victorian Electoral Commission returns the writs, endorsed with the names of the successful candidates, to the Governor.

With the conclusion of the 57th Parliament, any legislation before the parliament that was not passed has lapsed and all parliamentary committee work has ceased.
