Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
Allow protests against COVID-19 measures
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that the Andrews Labor Government have imposed what are arguably the most restrictive COVID 19 measures the world has seen in response to the pandemic.

The mental health, economic and human rights impacts are a significant concern for the future prosperity of Victoria. The current Chief Health Officer’s directions and emergency powers have made peaceful protesting illegal. The community’s attempts to protest against COVID-19 measures have resulted in forceful suppression by Victoria Police.

Many Victorians are aghast at the impact of the lockdowns and the imposed vaccine mandates on people so they can continue to work and provide for their families. Particularly as it is becoming evident that the vaccine does not prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Victorians have the right to protest. It was permitted during the height of the pandemic in 2020, when citizens were permitted to protest in response to the Black Lives Matter movement that swept the world. This demonstrated that it is possible to conduct a protest in Melbourne during the pandemic.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to work with Victoria Police to allow a citizen protest over the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and give Victorians the opportunity to voice their shared concerns prior to the proposed pandemic response legislation being introduced.
