Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
Legalise gel blasters
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the legal grey area in relation to the use of gel blasters by individuals.

The use of gel blasters has shown itself to be a viable sport in Queensland, with little issues in regard to public safety. Despite shooting almost harmless biodegradable gel projectiles, there are no fields for the use of gel blasters or stores within Victoria that sell gel blaster products due to issues of legality.

A similar sport, paintball, is very much legal within Victoria. Paintball has restrictions in place to keep the general public safe, so there is justifiable reason for gel blasters to become legalised as well. Gel balls are much less painful than paintballs. They leave little to no impact on the environment and the properties on which it’s played. Whilst paintballs can leave prominent bruises and paint residual where the projectiles are shot.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to legalise gel blasting as a sport, implement a gel blaster licence system, allow the sale and use of realistic looking gel blasters by registered licence holders over the age of 18 and permit the use of gel blasters on private property.
