Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
No new boat ramp on the Maribyrnong River in Ascot Vale
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that the Government’s initiative to construct a public boat ramp, with parking bays for 22 cars and trailers, on the Maribyrnong River near the Newsom Street footbridge in Ascot Vale, is incompatible with the current uses of the area. The boat ramp will introduce motorised traffic to a pedestrian-only area and will cause significant safety risks to those of all ages and abilities who regularly use the area off and on the water for passive sports and leisure. It will increase traffic and noise pollution, cause environmental damage and reduce precious green space currently enjoyed by the wider community. For these reasons, we strenuously object to the proposed boat ramp. The proposed initiative does not benefit the local community and will cause untold loss and damage to the highly valued amenities of the surrounding parkland and river.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to withdraw the development proposal to construct a public boat ramp on the Maribyrnong River near the Newson Street footbridge, Ascot Vale.
