St Kilda Road bike lanes
Nina TAYLOR (Albert Park) (19:16): (48) My adjournment matter tonight is to the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, and the action I seek is an update on the new bike lanes along St Kilda Road. St Kilda Road is Victoria’s busiest tram corridor and one of Melbourne’s most active cycling routes, with over 3500 cyclists per day, but it is also one of the most dangerous for cyclists. Cyclists are more likely to be seriously injured by car-doorings on St Kilda Road than anywhere else in Melbourne. Our government has committed to improving the safety of cyclists by delivering separated kerbside bike lanes that physically separate vehicles and bicycles on St Kilda Road from Linlithgow Avenue to Dorcas Street, and Toorak Road to Union Street to Charnwood Road. I have spoken to many local stakeholders, including the Port Phillip Bicycle User Group, who have told me how important these improvements are for ensuring the safety of the 3500 cyclists that currently use St Kilda Road each day.
