Level crossing removals
Josh BULL (Sunbury) (13:15): As Parliamentary Secretary for Level Crossing Removals and also Parliamentary Secretary for Transport. I have had the privilege of seeing firsthand the power of work occurring at level crossing removals right across our state – 67 crossings removed so far, soon to be 70. It has been terrific to be out and about with the member for Box Hill, who I see in the chamber, at Union and Mont Albert roads. The member is excited to get on and get rid of these level crossings, doing Facebook Live down there at the site each and every day – incredibly important work. This is about improving safety and of course reducing congestion and saving lives. Also the member for Ringwood at Dublin Road, the member for Preston at Keon Park, the member for Kororoit at Mount Derrimut and the members for Eltham and Bundoora at Greensborough. These are all fantastic local members of Parliament who know and understand their communities and know and understand how to get things done. The facts are that only the Andrews Labor government is getting on and delivering for all Victorians.
We know the member for Caulfield will be delighted by this reminder that the Glen Huntly Road crossing is actually within his electorate. He will also be delighted to be reminded that there were nine level crossings in the City of Glen Eira before Labor came to government in 2014, and by 2025 there will be zero. We know that removing level crossings is a complex task, and that is why the site prioritisation framework is important. It is about movement, place, safety, delivery – 110 gone by 2030.
