Ann-Marie HERMANS (South-Eastern Metropolitan) (12:49): My question is to the Minister for Police. Why has the government spent $30 million constructing a new police station in Clyde North – announced as part of a $78 million investment in the south-east – yet the station will not be open to the public? I remember that in 2018 it was promised as a police station to the public in an election promise. Now, the government’s own media release promised interview rooms, consultation facilities and high security, but Victoria Police has now confirmed the reception counter will remain closed. This means residents needing assistance must travel to Cranbourne police station, and they are asking why their needs have been again overlooked. Clyde North is one of the fastest growing communities in Victoria, with tens of thousands of new families moving in, yet they are being told their brand new state-of-the-art station is essentially off limits. It is simply not good enough.
