What are the next steps for the now lodged interim environmental significance overlay amendment C181 to protect a significant section of the Western Port woodlands in Bass Coast? This vital wildlife corridor, our largest intact coastal woodland, supports rare orchids, critically endangered trees and threatened species. I welcome that council has finally got on with it, to use their words, as it was always their responsibility to undertake this important step, though it is curious that after taking so long themselves they now urge the minister to do the same. The real credit belongs to the sustained advocacy of the Save Western Port Woodlands group, alongside the Victorian National Parks Association, Western Port Biosphere and others – thank you. We have consistently called on council to undertake the strategic work outlined in the Bass Coast statement of planning policy to progress environmental protections for these high-biodiversity woodlands. My support has never wavered, and I look forward to the minister’s response.
