A social worker in my electorate told me that every day homelessness services are turning people away because they cannot meet demand. The numbers tell us why: in 2023 Victoria built 3000 public and community homes, but that same year the government demolished or sold off 1626 homes, a net increase of just 1312 homes across the state. With a growing list of people waiting for a public home, experts recommend that Victoria needs to build at least 6000 homes every year for 10 years to meet demand, but Labor is failing to meet even a quarter of that. Will the government meet or even try to meet the recommended target?
