Queen Street bridge, Altona
Mathew HILAKARI (Point Cook) (19:06): (644) My adjournment matter is for the Minister for Public and Active Transport, and the action that I seek is that the minister joins me on a visit to Queen Street bridge in Altona Meadows over Laverton Creek. I have had to change my adjournment today because the budget has changed things. It was a call for action, for the minister to see exactly how dangerous this area is for cyclists and pedestrians and the distances that people have to go to traverse that area safely, if they are one of those. But I am very thankful for this Labor government for funding it in today’s budget –
A member interjected.
Mathew HILAKARI: amazing – so it is actually a bit of a celebration point in time for the community I represent. The community, I know, absolutely love this project, because more than 1100 of them signed a petition to say that we needed this important safety feature for our community. I thank the minister very much. I also thank the Minister for Roads and Road Safety, the member for Williamstown. The member for Williamstown has been an absolute champion for this piece of infrastructure, but so have some of our other colleagues in local council – Cr Diana Grima and the current mayor Cr Matt Tyler – and all those community activists, who I just want to thank for their ongoing support and effort to see this happen. I do look forward to the minister coming out for more of a celebration than an activation.
