Residents in Port Melbourne are being kept awake night after night by hoon behaviour and excessive vehicle noise from cars and motorbikes. They feel unsafe, and some people are even too scared to leave their homes at night. I have been contacted by a number of constituents about this issue, which has been going on for years. It was reported today that a resident fed up with the constant disturbance earlier this year was punched in the face when he confronted one of these hoons. The government has announced a $1.3 million trial of roadside acoustic cameras managed by the EPA to detect illegal noise levels, capture number plates and issue fines, yet this community remain frustrated that they have no clarity about when these cameras will be operational or where they will be located. Minister, can you please tell my constituents when these noise cameras will be installed in Port Melbourne to address the reckless, dangerous and disruptive hoon behaviour?
