Georgie CROZIER (Southern Metropolitan) (12:49): The state is in a terrible state when the crime wave that we are experiencing is occurring day after day and with the horrific scenes we are seeing today. I have got a constituent who has been raising this with their local member in Albert Park over the past 24 months. He and fellow residents have repeatedly raised issues with the local member and the government, highlighting the anti-social behaviour that is occurring in their area, the violent incidents, attempted break-ins and drug-related activity – and it goes on. Not long ago, in May, a police officer was pinned to a car with a stolen car. The increase in the crime and the level of this crime is out of control. My constituent has had no luck, and I am asking the Minister for Local Government – who he has been asking also – that the local government work with the state government to have improved lighting in Church and Dow streets. My question is for the local government minister to work with Port Phillip council to ensure that this occurs.
