WENDY LOVELL — To ask the Minister for Corrections: 

In relation to the site of the former Dhurringile Prison:

(1)  Since its closure on 31 August 2024, what has been the cost of —

(a)  power to the site;

(b)  water rights;

(c)  security surveillance;

(d)  maintenance; 

(e)  administration of the facility;

(f)  local government rates;

(g)  State Government levies and taxes; and

(h)  other associated costs.

(2)  Since its closure on 31 August 2024, how much income has been generated from the leasing or farming of land at the site.

Since the closure of Dhurringile Prison on 31 August 2024 the Department of Justice and Community Safety has invested $2.06 million in maintaining the Dhurringile Prison site.

The Department of Justice and Community Safety has maintained responsibility for the site since the prison’s closure. Income has not been generated from leasing or farming activity, however the land has been used to offset the cost of feed for cattle located at other prison locations.

1.  Since the closure of Dhurringile Prison on 31 August 2024, the Department of Justice and Community Safety has invested $2.06 million in maintaining the Dhurringile Prison site since it’s closure. Further breakdown of costs:

a)     $163,950.44 for the cost of power to the site
 

b)     $37,580.40 for the cost of water rights
 

c)      $437,138.65 for the cost of security surveillance
 

d)     $1,301,603.53 for the cost of maintenance (includes waste disposal, cleaning, scheduled maintenance and reactive/remedial costs)
 

e)     $95,213.19 (represents cost of staffing since decommissioning from 1 July 2025)
 

f)        $27,854.33 for the cost of Local Government rates
 

g)     $0 for the cost of State Government Levies and Taxes
