Darebin City Council

Bev McARTHUR (Western Victoria) (09:52): And on another matter, after nearly 2½ years I am glad to report that the Darebin council have finally seen the light. They have agreed to lower a foreign flag, the flag of Palestine, flying near Preston town hall. A motion moved by Cr Boglis and backed by the majority of the council bans new international flags from being flown. Sadly, there were three hold-outs, including two from the Greens, who would prefer to perpetuate this nonsense. As a former councillor and the Shadow Minister for Local Government, I have long said councils should be focused on their core business: roads, rubbish and community infrastructure.
