Western Metropolitan Region
Moira DEEMING (Western Metropolitan) (09:43): Although my first year as an MP has been, let us just say, tumultuous, advocating for my constituents in this place has been an honour, whether it has been calling for fairer taxes; for fairer funding in the west for roads, schools and community centres; for fair laws that protect workers, parents and women and children; or for the government to be held to the same standards that ordinary people are when they go over budget or break promises or fail to do their jobs. I would like to say some thankyous to people in my community who have helped me to do this work. Inside and outside of Parliament, from the left and the right of politics, from the Western Metro Region and all around the world, it has been an absolute honour to meet and stand with the mums and dads who love their kids and just want them to be healthy, get a good education and make a life for themselves. I absolutely could not possibly more deeply admire those volunteers who run all of our local sports clubs, just because they want to help kids develop their character and enjoy the thrill of the game. I have been so moved by the strength and vision of all the multicultural communities who cherish Australian democracy and proudly throw their lot in with ours – all these hardworking people doing their part to keep this state going. Thank you for standing with me, and I promise that I will keep standing for you.
