Constituency questions
Brunswick electorate
Brunswick electorate
Dr READ (Brunswick) (12:54): (2045) My constituency question is to the Minister for Public Transport. Several women in my constituency tell me they are concerned about their safety when walking to and from public transport. I am particularly concerned about one incident involving the 58 tram. It is a route that normally terminates in Pascoe Vale South, but late one night last month it terminated prematurely in Royal Park, forcing passengers to trek home in the darkness—apparently so the driver could catch up to the schedule. I ask the minister what specific resources and procedures are in place so that if people are forced to alight trams prior to their stop, particularly in isolated areas such as Royal Park, they are not put in a position where they fear for their personal safety.
