Casterton hailstorm
Emma KEALY (Lowan) (09:49): Today marks exactly one year since the hailstorm at Casterton destroyed or damaged so many buildings. In fact there were 1305 insurance claims from about the 1600 residents in that community. We are 12 months on, but there has been very limited support for that community. Unfortunately it failed to meet the damage quantum required for public assets and therefore there was no funding support provided.
We still have many, many people who are displaced from their homes. It has been extraordinarily difficult to access tradies in the local area, and while a number of roofs have been repaired, there are many, many more that have not. I therefore ask the Minister for Emergency Services to join me in Casterton to work out how the government can step up to fill the gap where there has been a gap in service delivery, because the Casterton community needs that support and they have not yet received that support.
