Petitions
Bunyip road safety
Wayne FARNHAM (Narracan) presented a petition bearing 293 signatures:
Issue:
This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly The need to urgently upgrade the Hope Street, Bunyip-Modella Road and Nar Nar Goon-Longwarry Road intersection.
We, the concerned residents, businesses, and road users of this region, demand immediate action to fix the dangerous and chaotic intersection at Hope Street, Bunyip-Modella Road and Nar Nar Goon-Longwarry Road. This intersection has had countless near misses, serious accidents, and daily congestion that puts lives at risk. It is one of the busiest in our rapidly growing town, yet it remains poorly designed, with limited visibility, inadequate signage, and no proper traffic control measures. Residents, school buses, emergency services, and local businesses are forced to navigate an intersection that has become a death trap. It has had numerous accidents, vehicle rollovers, and near-fatal collisions, with drivers and pedestrians narrowly escaping disaster. Community members have reported daily close calls, and it is only a matter of time before more lives are lost.
Despite years of advocacy from local councils, Members of Parliament, and non-profit organisations, little has been done.
Action:
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly call on the Government to urgently upgrade the Hope Street, Bunyip-Modella Road and Nar Nar Goon-Longwarry Road intersection, including installing traffic lights, a roundabout or other essential infrastructure, and conduct a safety audit.
Ordered that petition be considered tomorrow.
