Special Olympics World Games

Anthony CARBINES (Ivanhoe – Minister for Police, Minister for Community Safety, Minister for Victims, Minister for Racing) (09:51): The Special Olympics World Games is the world’s largest inclusive sports event. Thousands of athletes with intellectual disabilities compete together. The Special Olympics are held every two years, and the 2023 Special Olympics were held in Berlin, Germany, for the first time. Team Australia’s medal tally was 63 medals. Madeline Fox came second in the four-by-50-metre freestyle relay and the 100-metre freestyle. She also came fourth in the 100-metre backstroke. Madeline lives in Heidelberg, and I look forward to meeting her in Parliament House today to celebrate her amazing achievements.
