Constituency questions
Hawthorn electorate
John PESUTTO (Hawthorn – Leader of the Opposition) (14:42): (430) My question is to the Minister for Roads and Road Safety. When will the Allan Labor government make a decision on funding the vitally needed Hawthorn to Box Hill trail? Recently I met with the Boroondara Bicycle Users Group, known as BBUG. Their objective is to improve cycling tracks around Hawthorn and nearby neighbourhoods and to make our roads safer for all road users through awareness and delivery of new projects. A key project of interest within my local community is the Hawthorn to Box Hill cycling trail. In 2021 the state government completed a feasibility study into the trail. However, to date there is still no progress on design, nor has any funding been announced. I note that BBUG has started a petition online and has so far received 1153 signatures in support of the trail. That can be viewed at https://www.change.org/p/please-build-the-hawthorn-to-box-hill-trail-for-bikes-walkers-and-scooters. Minister, I call on the government to finally commit to funding the Hawthorn to Box Hill trail, thus providing the people of Hawthorn with much-needed new infrastructure.
