Petition Upgrade Tarneit Railway Station car park

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that the residents and commuters of Tarneit and surrounding communities, call on the Victorian Government to urgently address the ongoing parking and traffic crisis at Tarneit Railway Station. Tarneit is one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities, yet transport infrastructure has struggled to keep pace with population growth.

Every day, commuters face difficulty finding a parking space at Tarneit Station. For many, the problem continues after they have finished work with long queues and congestion making leaving the station car park extremely difficult and time-consuming. Commuters should not have to spend hours of their day simply trying to park and get home. The continued use of gravel and unsealed parking areas also highlights the need for proper, safe and fit-for-purpose parking infrastructure.

Public transport users should not face inadequate parking and congestion. Tarneit has grown rapidly, and its infrastructure must keep pace. We are calling for practical action, investment and a clear timeline.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to upgrade Tarneit Railway Station, including sealing existing gravel parking areas, upgrading drainage and lighting, increasing parking capacity, improving traffic flow and car park exits to reduce peak-hour congestion and delays, improving pedestrian access between parking areas and the station and working with train service providers, Wyndham City Council and relevant agencies to deliver a coordinated solution to address the parking crisis.
