Petition Silvan Reservoir high-security fence upgrade

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the Melbourne Water’s Silvan Reservoir high-security fence upgrade.

This project provides a rare opportunity for the fencing to be set back from its current position and relocated closer to the reservoir. This would also allow for future development of a long-awaited path connecting Monbulk to the iconic 40 kilometre Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail, that attracts hundreds of walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Monbulk trail was proposed decades ago and set out in the Yarra Ranges Council Paths and Trails Plan which describes these as movement corridors that connect places and people and benefit the community by encouraging active lifestyles and outdoor exercise, promoting sustainable modes of transport, providing tourism outcomes and stimulating local businesses.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to ensure Melbourne Water and the Yarra Ranges Council redesign plans for the Silvan Reservoir high-security fence upgrade to include the proper setback of the fence against the western side of Monbulk Road, enabling the future construction of a trail to connect Monbulk to the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail and extend the widespread community and economic benefits enjoyed from these unique interconnected pathways.
