Petition Remove the Mayor of the City of Wyndham

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that it has recently come to light that the Mayor of Wyndham, Cr Preet Singh, gave a character reference to a man who was being charged with the serious crimes of grooming and sexually abusing a minor. In his character reference he showed no remorse for the victim and even belittled the crime saying it was just a one-off event and said that the man was an honest and trustworthy guy. For an elected councillor, currently in the role of Mayor, this is completely unacceptable. The public cannot trust this individual, especially around children, when he has such a nonchalant attitude to something as reprehensible as child grooming. Cr Singh should remove himself from the role of Mayor.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Minister for Local Government to remove Cr Preet Singh as the Mayor of Wyndham as his poor judgment is a blight on the City of Wyndham.
