Petition Protections for retail, fast food, hospitality, and transport workers

Issue:

This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the urgent and growing crisis of aggression and assaults against retail, fast food, hospitality, and transport workers—those who keep our communities running every day.
1. These workers are essential workers and face frequent violence and intimidation simply for doing their jobs, and the toll on their safety and wellbeing is unacceptable.
2. Strong action has been taken in other States and Territories to stamp out this scourge and send a message that our society will not tolerate aggression and violence directed at directed at these workers.
3. Premier Allan promised in May last year to introduce stronger penalties, and we now call on the Legislative Assembly to act swiftly, ensuring real, concrete measures are in place to protect those who serve our community.

Action:

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly legislate, without delay, to impose tougher penalties for aggression and assault directed at retail, fast food, hospitality and transport workers and introduce Workplace Protection Orders for use against serial offenders.
