Petition Independent performance and financial audit of the Melton Hospital project

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that the Melton Hospital project represents one of Victoria's largest public health infrastructure investments and must be delivered with the highest standards of transparency, accountability and value for taxpayers' money. Given the scale of public expenditure, the community expects effective oversight of project planning, procurement, contract management, variations, expenditure, delivery timeframes and project governance. An independent audit and public reporting process would strengthen public confidence, reduce the risk of cost overruns, delays and waste, and ensure that the hospital is delivered efficiently and in accordance with approved funding and project objectives.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to commission an independent performance and financial audit of the Melton Hospital project, including of the procurement processes, contract awards, expenditure, project variations, governance, risk management, delivery milestones and value for money, and require the findings and recommendations to be tabled in Parliament and made publicly available to ensure transparency and accountability for Victorian taxpayers.
