Petition Increase police deployed in the City of Casey

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the fact that the City of Casey, one of Australia's fastest-growing communities with a population approaching 430,000, is severely underserved by Victoria Police.

Casey recorded over 31,000 criminal offences in 2025, a 34 per cent increase over five years and the highest total in at least a decade. This includes nearly 30,000 offences in the year to June 2025 alone, a 20.5 per cent annual increase, with aggravated home burglaries up 40 per cent, motor vehicle theft up 54 per cent, and family violence incidents at 6,735, including 3,846 breaches of intervention orders. Casey has had the highest number of family violence incidents of any Victorian municipality for over a decade.

Despite serving a population approaching the size of Tasmania's, the City of Casey Police Service Area has been reported to sometimes operate with as few as 12 officers on duty at any one time. Victoria Police's own officers and senior leadership have publicly stated the region needs more police on the streets and that resourcing is the binding constraint. Casey residents deserve better.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to substantially increase the number of sworn police officers and specialist support staff deployed in the City of Casey to a level commensurate with its population size, crime rate, and continued rapid growth, and require Victoria Police to publicly report on minimum deployment levels in the City of Casey police service area, so that residents can hold the Government and Victoria Police accountable for delivering a police presence proportionate to community need.
