Petition Increase funding for community sporting facilities and recreation infrastructure

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that community sporting facilities and recreation infrastructure are essential to supporting healthy, active and connected communities. Population growth across many Victorian municipalities has increased demand for sporting grounds, recreation reserves, indoor courts, playgrounds, walking and cycling paths, change rooms and community facilities. In many areas, existing infrastructure has not kept pace with population growth, resulting in limited access, overcrowding and reduced opportunities for participation in sport and recreation. Increased investment is required to ensure communities have access to safe, modern and inclusive facilities that promote physical activity, community participation and wellbeing.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to increase funding for community sporting facilities and recreation infrastructure, prioritise investment in high-growth and underserved communities, support the construction and upgrade of sporting grounds, indoor facilities, playgrounds, shared paths and accessible amenities and provide transparent public reporting on funding allocations, project delivery and community outcomes.
