Petition Improve Melton's public transport services

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that Melton is one of Victoria's fastest growing municipalities, with rapid residential development placing increasing demand on public transport services. Many residents in growth areas experience limited bus routes, infrequent services, poor connections to railway stations, schools, hospitals, shopping centres and employment precincts, and reduced transport options during evenings and weekends. Inadequate bus services contribute to traffic congestion, transport disadvantage and reduced access to education, employment and essential services. Public transport investment should keep pace with population growth to ensure all residents have access to safe, reliable and convenient bus services.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to increase bus services across Melton's growth areas by introducing new routes, increasing service frequency, extending evening and weekend services, improving connections with Melton and Cobblebank railway stations and key community destinations, and publishing a long-term bus service improvement plan to meet the needs of the municipality's growing population.
