Petition Establish public reporting framework for major transport infrastructure projects

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that the Victorian Government is investing many billions of dollars in major transport infrastructure projects, including the North East Link, the main works of the Suburban Rail Loop East, the Level Crossing Removal Program and other road projects. Public reports have identified challenges relating to project delivery, including the timing of funding releases and the complexity of managing large infrastructure programs. Given the scale of public expenditure and the financial impact on Victorian taxpayers, there is a strong public interest in ensuring these projects are delivered efficiently, within budget and on schedule. Greater transparency and independent oversight are necessary to strengthen public confidence and identify risks before they result in significant cost overruns or delays.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to establish a public reporting framework for Victoria's major transport infrastructure projects, including the North East Link, the Level Crossing Removal Program, major road projects and other significant transport investments, requiring annual reporting on project costs, expenditure, delivery milestones, risks, schedule performance and value for money, with each report to be tabled in Parliament.
