Petition Deliver the Melton Line Electrification project

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that Melton is one of Victoria's fastest-growing communities, yet residents continue to experience increasing congestion, overcrowding on public transport and limited rail capacity. The electrification of the Melton rail line has been identified as an important project to improve transport services, increase network capacity, support housing growth and provide more reliable and frequent train services for residents in Melbourne's western suburbs. Delays to the project create ongoing challenges for commuters, reduce transport accessibility and place additional pressure on existing road and public transport infrastructure. The petitioners believe the project should be delivered as a priority to meet the needs of the growing community.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to fully fund, commit to and deliver the Melton Line Electrification project, including the timely completion of planning, procurement and construction, publish a clear delivery timetable and regular public progress reports, and ensure sufficient funding is allocated to complete the project without unnecessary delay.
