Petition Ban electric billboards

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that digital billboards are terrible for the environment and need to be banned. In Victoria, digital billboards are getting seriously out of control. Some roads seem to have them every few hundred metres and they are popping up absolutely everywhere. It is starting to feel less like advertising and more like permanent visual pollution. These billboards are a waste of electricity and are a visual distraction for drivers. We have laws to reduce driving distraction, but has anyone seen these billboard blinding people with rolling advertising on both sides of road. The road lit up like stadium lights.

The Government needs to impose a ban on electric billboards and only allow old style advertising boards with warm white light from the front on the billboard. No electric billboard should be allowed with rolling advertisements every few seconds.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to impose a ban on electric billboards.
