Terms of reference
The terms of reference are instructions which explain what a committee has been asked to do, what topics it should focus on, and how its members will work together to achieve its shared goals.
The Parliament of Victoria has referred to the Education and Training Committee a reference for inquiry, consideration and report no later than 31 March 2008 on dress codes and school uniforms in Victoria, in particular:
- the benefits and costs of mandatory school uniforms;
- the views of school communities about dress codes and school uniforms;
- the most cost efficient and practical uniform procurement arrangements;
- matters which need to be considered to ensure dress codes and uniform policies are consistent with anti-discrimination legislation and health promotion policies;
- appropriate enforcement and sanctions;
- appropriate exemption criteria and processes; and
- national and international trends.
