Bright sitting for Legislative Council
The Legislative Council will hold a sitting in the town of Bright on Thursday, 29 April 2021.
The location for the regional sitting has been announced by the President of the Legislative Council, Nazih Elasmar.
“This will be a wonderful opportunity for the communities of North East Victoria to experience the Legislative Council and for members of the Legislative Council to engage with those communities,” Mr Elasmar said.
“Bright was an important hub for responding to last summer’s bushfires and continues to play a pivotal part in the region’s recovery,” Mr Elasmar added.
“Holding a Legislative Council sitting in Bright demonstrates our commitment to and support for the region,” he said.
In addition to the parliamentary sitting, a range of activities are being planned in which community members can participate to find out more about the Victorian Parliament and interact with members and staff of the Legislative Council over the course of a week. Further details will be revealed in coming weeks.
“Taking the Legislative Council out of Melbourne to hold a sitting in a regional location is an important way of demonstrating the Legislative Council represents and works for all Victorians,” Mr Elasmar said.
The Legislative Council has previously held regional sittings in Bendigo in 2012, Lakes Entrance in 2008, Colac in 2005, Benalla in 2002 and Ballarat in 2001.
