On This Day

Tuesday, 7 December, 1943

George Hamilton Lamb died as a prisoner of war on the Burma Railway whilst still a Member of the Legislative Assembly. He was the only sitting Victorian Member of Parliament to pass away during active war service, whilst in office. George Lamb was MLA for Lowan from March 1935 to December 1943. He served in the Australian Imperial Force 1940-1943, 2/2nd Pioneer battalion, Middle East and Java as a lieutenant. He became a Prisoner of War in Java in 1942.
