Question on Notice
With reference to the Hazelwood North Country Fire Authority (CFA) shed, which was deemed not fit-for-purpose after an audit was conducted more than 16 years ago. Initially, funding was indicated for an upgrade, but when it became clear the site required a more substantial solution there was a transition from an upgrade pathway to a full replacement:
(1) When did that transition occur.
(2) Why hasn’t it progressed into a funded project.
(3) Why has the replacement stalled.
(4) Where does the rebuild of the Hazelwood North CFA sit within the capital works pipeline.
(5) Why has the replacement of this station not been prioritised or funded despite the audit findings.

I acknowledge the important work of all our CFA volunteers across Victoria. They are there when the community needs them most and they selflessly give their time to protect and help others and are essential to the State’s response before, during, and after emergencies, including Hazelwood North CFA Brigade.
CFA prioritise station replacements and modifications on the basis of district, regional and state-wide needs, including community risk profile and service delivery needs, to ensure the best outcome for Victorians.
CFA has developed a Whole of Life Asset Plan, and through its asset prioritisation planning, CFA continually reviews infrastructure requirements. CFA will continue to monitor and assess the condition of the existing station in consultation with the brigade.
I encourage the Hazelwood North brigade to work directly with their district headquarters to inform this important work. This will ensure operational requirements, community risk profiles, service delivery requirements, and appliance typology continue to be reviewed safely and effectively to ensure the best outcomes for Victorians.
