Legislative Assembly 60 Parliament First Session
3310: Questions on Notice
Martin Cameron to ask the Minister for Roads and Road Safety —  With reference to the Roads Blitz announced on 27 April 2026 and associated investment in road maintenance, will the noxious weeds that have taken over the Bank Street intersection in Traralgon be removed as part of this road maintenance program.

Answer - 28 May 2026

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) advises that the location in question is unclear as there are multiple intersections along this section of the network.

Should the Member be able to provide more detailed location information, DTP’s Gippsland Regional Office would be pleased to investigate the matter further.

DTP adopts a network-based approach to prioritising maintenance activities across the state, ensuring available resources are directed to areas of greatest need and risk. Across the Gippsland network, annually the Department invests heavily in roadside maintenance activities, which includes the management of noxious weeds.

In 2024/25, DTP undertook a Gippsland-wide survey of noxious weeds to better inform the targeting of maintenance programs and improve the effectiveness of future treatments.

The roadside weed spraying program is delivered in accordance with this network-based approach and complies with the requirements of the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994. Under the Act, the treatment of State and regionally prohibited weeds is prioritised over regionally controlled species, such as blackberries and other controlled species.
