Legislative Assembly 60 Parliament First Session
2757: Questions on Notice
Martin Cameron to ask the Minister for Health —

With reference to the Government’s decision to cease funding the Latrobe Health Assembly, which funded the Wellbeing and Emotional Support (WES) café, a community-based service that provides a non-clinical model of wellbeing support in the Latrobe Valley:

Given the critical role the WES café plays in supporting vulnerable community members in the Latrobe Valley, what specific steps is the Department taking to ensure continued funding for this essential mental health service.

Answer - 8 September 2025

The Department is working closely with the Latrobe Health Assembly (Assembly) to ensure a smooth transition and minimise community impact. While funding to the Assembly will cease in 2025, the Assembly is working with project partners to identify opportunities for sustainability, including transitioning initiatives where possible.

Mental health and wellbeing services in the Latrobe Valley will continue to be provided through the Allan Government’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals program, including the Latrobe Mental Health and Wellbeing Local, which provides free, walk-in support without the need for a referral or Medicare card.

The Hon Mary-Anne Thomas MP
