Question on Notice
With reference to Traralgon Tennis Association's urgent need for facility upgrades at the Traralgon Tennis Centre to continue hosting the Grade 1 International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior tennis event:
(1) Will the Minister meet with representatives of the Traralgon Tennis Association to discuss these urgent infrastructure upgrades.
(2) What support will the Government provide
to assist the Traralgon Tennis Association in delivering the critical and
necessary upgrades.
I thank the Member for Morwell for his question.
The Victorian Government has proudly supported the Traralgon Tennis Centre (TTC) with funding of $400,000 in 2018 through the Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative to upgrade the facility, as well as the Significant Sporting Events Program via Tennis Australia (TA) and Traralgon Tennis Association (TTA) to host the Loy Yang Traralgon Junior International Tennis Federation (ITF) Tournament at the TTC, since 2014 through until 2026.
Decisions regarding the standards required to host the Loy Yang Traralgon Junior ITF Tournament at the TTC, are an operational matter for TA, as the governing body of tennis in Australia. If the temporary event overlay at TTC does not meet the required ITF standards, I would encourage TTA to liaise directly with TA.
If TTA is seeking to upgrade the TTC from a community to professional level sporting facility, to assist with further planning, Sport and Recreation Victoria recently developed the attached Infrastructure Planning Guidance for High Performance Sport resource, which provides practical advice to support informed planning of high performance and professional sport infrastructure.
I would encourage TTA to review this document and discuss any potential upgrades with the Latrobe City Council as the asset owner and TA. Following these discussions, TTA can present the outcomes to Sport and Recreation Victoria.
