Question details
Question on Notice
With reference to the aerial pumper stationed in Morwell, which is a vital asset that protects key infrastructure such as coal mines and responding to emergencies across the Latrobe Valley:
(1) When will an aerial pumper and heavy pumper be replaced at Morwell.
(2) What is the Government doing to ensure adequate emergency coverage without this critical asset, given that its absence exposes the Latrobe Valley community to significant risk if a fire were to start in the mine.
(3) What interim measures have been put in place to protect essential infrastructure and communities while the aerial pumper is unavailable.
I thank the member for their questions.
The safety of firefighters, first responders and the community are a priority for FRV.
FRV has a diverse fleet of specialised appliances, heavy vehicles and equipment, managed through a rigorous service and maintenance program to identify and address any issues or replace items as needed.
Where an appliance is temporarily out of service because it requires repair or maintenance, a replacement is provided from FRV’s existing fleet pool to ensure the community is well protected.
The Allan Labor Government has recently invested in a rolling fleet replacement program for FRV. Where new appliances will be stationed is an FRV operational decision.
The Latrobe Valley community can have full confidence that FRV is ready to respond to protect life and property. At all times, FRV ensures that appropriate equipment is deployed to emergencies to protect firefighters and the community.
