Legislative Assembly 60 Parliament First Session
2032: Questions on Notice
Martin Cameron to ask the Minister for Roads and Road Safety —

With reference to planned upgrades to signalling on the Gippsland Line in mid-2025, impacting the completion of critical infrastructure projects in the Latrobe Valley:

(1) When will the traffic signals at the Bank Street intersection be installed and operational.

(2) When will construction commence on the gated pedestrian crossing linking Bank Street to the Traralgon Golf course.

Answer - 4 April 2025

The new traffic signals on the Princes Highway at the Bank Street intersection require a communications link with the adjacent railway crossing on Bank Street to ensure they are coordinated with the railway signals when train is approaching.

As you are aware, the adjacent railway crossing on Bank Street is being upgraded as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade (GLU) works. Further questions relating to the GLU are a matter for the Minister for Transport Infrastructure.

Once the initial signalling system is implemented, the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) can finalise the design and complete installation of the interlinking system, including the gated pedestrian crossing, to enable the traffic signals to be switched on.

DTP has implemented interim measures at this intersection including a reduced 60km/h speed limit, linemarking modifications and vegetation trimming to improve road safety while the linking of the road and rail signals is being completed.
