I thank the Member for Morwell for his question.

The Gippsland Line Upgrade is delivering a new train control system, updating the line’s ageing infrastructure to ensure trains can safely run more often.

This work is part of the Victorian and Australian governments’ investment in the Gippsland Line, which has upgraded stations, delivered a new bridge over the Avon River in Stratford and enabled modern VLocity trains to travel to Bairnsdale.

A major construction blitz will be required for safety testing, driver training and commissioning, to bring the new system into operation including the new platforms at Morwell and Traralgon. The Gippsland Line Upgrade is due for completion later this year. Further information on timing will be provided once finalised.

Planning is continuing for the delivery of more services enabled by the Gippsland Line Upgrade.
