Question on Notice
With reference to the Victorian School Building Authority’s (VSBA) Make Safe Program, an unusable and unsafe classroom has been left unrepaired at Albert Street Primary School in Moe. The school has been told they must fund the permanent repairs from their own operating budget. I understand other schools in the Morwell electorate face similar challenges with this program, citing issues with policy parameters, communication, and action.
(1) Will the VSBA’s Make Safe Program fund critical permanent repair works at Albert Street Primary School.
(2) Can the Minister advise when the classroom will be permanently fixed for reoccupation.
The Minister for Education: I am advised as follows:
The Victorian School Building Authority’s (VSBA’s) Make-safe Program provides assistance to schools that have sustained damage through an incident or event. The service provider will complete make-safe works to eliminate immediate risks and hazards and help re-establish a safe operating environment as soon as possible.
Moe (Albert Street) Primary School raised a make-safe report in August 2024 in response to a leaking roof in the staff and administration building. The VSBA's Make-safe Program responded and completed the make-safe works that were required.
Subsequently, the school experienced an additional severe weather event in November 2024 that will require further remediation works. The VSBA is currently reviewing the quotes for the remediation works for both events as a whole.
