Legislative Assembly 60 Parliament First Session
1776: Questions on Notice
Martin Cameron to ask the Minister for Police for the Minister for Emergency Services —

With reference to the promised new fire station for the Hazelwood North Fire Brigade. In 2010, the Hazelwood North Fire Brigade premises were deemed not fit for purpose by Country Fire Authority District 27, yet no progress has been made on developing a new station despite funds being allocated at the time.

Will the Minister commit to funding a new station for the Hazelwood North Fire Brigade and provide a timeline for delivery.

Answer - 19 November 2024

I thank the member for their question.

I want to acknowledge the important work of all our Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteers across Victoria. They are always there when the community needs them most and they selflessly give their time to protect and help others and are essential to the State’s response before, during and after emergencies.

CFA maintains, modifies or upgrades fire stations based on priority and considering capital funding available to support volunteers and the communities they serve. Given the funds available, CFA must prioritise station replacements and upgrades based on district, regional and state-wide needs, community risk profile and service delivery needs, to ensure the best outcome for Victorians.

While CFA recognises the challenges associated with the Hazelwood North fire station, which reflects the standard at the time it was built, a replacement station is not currently funded.

I can assure you that CFA, through its Whole of Life Asset Plan, continually reviews infrastructure requirements. As part of this process, CFA engages with local government and other relevant stakeholders to ensure any proposals meet CFA’s current or future asset requirements.

CFA will continue to review the condition of the existing Hazelwood North Fire Station, in consultation with the brigade, as part of its ongoing commitment to ensure its assets meet service delivery requirements.
