Martin Cameron to ask the Minister for Transport Infrastructure —

With reference to the upgrades in the Gippsland Line:

(1) When will the new platform at the Morwell Train Station be open for use.

(2) What is causing the delays for the new platform at the Morwell Train Station, currently not in use.

(3) When will the signalling upgrades along the Gippsland line be completed to allow for more frequent and reliable service along the line.

Answer - 31 January 2025

I thank the member for his question.

The Gippsland Line Upgrade is delivering a new signalling system which, in conjunction with the track works and station upgrades already delivered, will future-proof the line and enable additional services for passengers.

This will build on the extra weekend services we funded for the Gippsland Line in the 2023-24 State Budget, which are currently in planning and will deliver Traralgon services every 40 minutes from 8am to 9pm on weekends, as part of almost 200 extra services we’re adding across the regional rail network.

Major construction on upgrades, including second platforms at Bunyip, Longwarry, Morwell and Traralgon stations, is complete - with finishing touches being completed around the station precincts.

New infrastructure between Pakenham and Drouin delivered as part of the Gippsland Line Upgrade entered service in June after a construction blitz. The new second platforms at Bunyip and Longwarry, now in use by passengers, are improving journeys and providing V/Line with more operational flexibility, boosting reliability – and the new platforms at Morwell and Traralgon will come into operation after the signalling system from Drouin to Traralgon is completed.

Work on the commissioning strategy for the project’s remaining upgrades is continuing, with further updates on timing to be made available in due course.
