Issue:
This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly This petition of residents of the Ashwood District draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the important role that the pedestrian bridge crossing the Monash Freeway adjacent to Salesian College plays in supporting safe access for students, families, pedestrians and cyclists within the local community. The bridge is used daily by large numbers of Salesian College students, staff, local residents and visitors travelling between surrounding neighbourhoods and community facilities. As usage of the bridge continues to grow, community members have raised concerns regarding pedestrian safety, the adequacy of the existing protective barriers and the long-term suitability of the current infrastructure over one of Victoria’s busiest freeways. The community is seeking upgrades, including higher protective railings and associated safety improvements, to strengthen community safety outcomes and support the wellbeing of vulnerable members of the community.
