Issue:
This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the need for investment, modernisation and upgrades at Coburg Primary School (CPS) to support new, inclusive, fit-for-purpose and accessible learning environments for the whole school community. As one of the oldest and continuous public schools in Victoria, first established in 1853 and still utilising many of its early buildings, the school’s home to a proudly diverse and growing community of 337 students and 36 staff, accommodated across two campuses separated by Bell Street, with a junior southern campus for Foundation to Grade 1 students, and a senior northern campus for Grade 2 to Grade 6 students. Situated in the heart of the Central Coburg Activity Centre, many existing buildings and facilities are increasingly challenged in meeting the expectations and demands of a modern learning environment, including accessibility, amenity, safety, operational and capacity needs. As an important step towards future upgrades, CPS has shared in $10 million of statewide planning funding secured through the 2025/26 Budget to develop a Concept Master Plan. This plan focuses on addressing existing maintenance, occupational health and safety, enrolment growth and facilities challenges and constraints.
Action:
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly calls on the Government to provide investment to deliver Coburg Primary School's Concept Master Plan and support the community's vision for new and refurbished indoor and outdoor learning facilities, and modernisation and upgrade works at this important school that supports a growing and changing community.
