Issue:
This petition of residents in Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Assembly the need for an improved service on bus route 534, which runs from Glenroy Station to Coburg, through Hadfield, Pascoe Vale and Coburg North. The 534 bus provides access to the Craigieburn and Upfield Train Lines, five secondary schools, several sporting and recreational facilities, a large retirement village, the Glenroy and Coburg Major Activity Centres, and Neighbourhood Centres at West Street Hadfield, Gaffney/Sussex Streets Coburg North, and Merlynston Station. The 534 bus service runs every 30 minutes on weekdays and every 40 minutes on weekends. The area is experiencing significant population growth, and the frequency of train services on the Upfield and Craigieburn Lines is being improved to provide better public transport options. However, the frequency of bus services has not improved. Many local residents live two kilometres or more from a train station, with buses such as route 534 providing this important link. A frequent 534 bus service would make it much easier for residents to use public transport. This would reduce the cost of living and help address road congestion and car parking constraints.
Action:
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Assembly calls on the Government to improve the frequency of services on bus route 534 to every 15 minutes.
