Special invitation for senior
high school students and teachers

Year 11 and 12 students and their teachers are invited
to attend the Deakin Oration 2018 at Parliament House,
presented by Nobel Peace Prize winner Tilman Ruff AM.

Two students and one teacher from each Victorian
high school can nominate to attend this free event. 
As places are limited, please nominate early by emailing or phone 8682 2655.

For students and teachers in Geelong and Ballarat,
the Victorian Parliament will provide free bus transport
to Parliament House and return on the day to enable
their participation. Please indicate when nominating
if you wish to take up this offer.

Associate Professor Tilman Ruff AM

Tilman RuffDr Ruff was the founding co-chair of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which started as a grassroots movement in Melbourne and in 2017 won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Dr Ruff will speak about the group’s efforts in helping to achieve the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. He will also be bringing along his copy of the Nobel Peace Prize to view.

The event will include a question and answer session for students.

What is the Deakin Oration?

The Deakin Oration is an annual presentation at Parliament House honouring Australia’s second Prime Minister and Victorian MP, Alfred Deakin, and giving a contemporary context to the issues he was interested in during his parliamentary career. It is an opportunity to hear from a prominent Victorian about a topical issue.
