Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
Upgrade the Howard Street and Midland Highway intersection
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that a key intersection of the gazetted B-Double route at Howard Street and Midland Highway, Epsom urgently requires an essential and significant upgrade.

This intersection is a major component of the truck and freight route linking the North West of Bendigo to the northern corridor for access to the Livestock Exchange at Huntly and the North East of Victoria.

Despite sustained rapid growth within the area and significant increase in vehicle size, the intersection remains inadequate and unsafe for road users and the community.

Commercial developments are planned for the North West and North East corners of the intersection. Once undertaken, these developments will obstruct the works required to reconstruct the intersection in order to meet the demands already in place. The North West corner KFC development is approved and includes drive-thru entry and exit onto the existing road with no adjustments to limit the impediment of traffic flow on approach to this key intersection.

Now is the time to act and upgrade this intersection to ensure the safety and sustainability of the community and the existing B-Double Freight connection to the North.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to allocate funding and schedule capital works for the Howard Street and Midland Highway intersection in Epsom before any commercial development begins and make plans and schedules for this upgrade are publicly available.
